I've (We've) Got News!!!

If you've been reading my blog for a while, you know that I met Francesco a year and a half ago, and quickly fell in love.

We've been navigating what it means to be in a dual-culture relationship. And while sometimes our deficiencies in one another's language cause confusion, there's been nothin' but love between us.

And that's why...we have decided...[drumroll please]...

To get married!!

Thank you, thank you, yes, we are thrilled.

Let the Wedding Planning in Triplicate Begin

We're actually getting married three times. Yep.

The first will be at the comune (city hall). It'll be a tiny ceremony, and we'll celebrate afterward with Fra's family.

Next summer, we're going to have the big party with all the friends and family. We haven't finished the guest list but it's already over 100! I wouldn't even have that many people to invite if it were just my friends!

Then we want to have another small ceremony in the U.S. for my family.

So...in true Su style, I'm juggling plans for all three weddings at once!

But Oh, the Bureaucracy!

I'm already learning that marrying an Italian as a foreigner is just like applying for a permesso di soggiorno or any other type of Italian bureaucracy: full of (unneccessary) hoops and lots of running around.

I'll blog about everything I have to do for getting married in Italy after it's all done, but already we had to take a trip to Napoli to visit the U.S. Consulate to sign a document swearing I was single. Now I'm getting documents apostilled in the U.S., and we're calling government offices left and right trying to find out what's next.

It shouldn't surprise me, but NONE of the emails we've sent to said Italian offices, nor to the U.S. Consulates received replies. WTF?!

Anyway, I'm trying not to let all the red tape deter me. This man is definitely worth the trouble! Especially when he's sweet enough to make the phone calls. :)
